Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor

Location: Aberdeen

Salary: >£55,000 plus package

I’m recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and construction business looking to appoint an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor to support its operations in the Peterhead area. This is an opportunity to join a business delivering technically demanding projects, working closely with operational teams to maintain high standards of safety, environmental compliance and risk management.

Reporting to the EHS Manager, you’ll play an important role in supporting site operations, engaging with contractors and helping to develop a positive, proactive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide practical safety and environmental advice to site management, employees and subcontractors.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits and risk assessments, identifying hazards and recommending appropriate control measures.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS policies, procedures and management systems.
  • Review contractor RAMS and ensure suitable controls are in place before work begins.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes and support the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Monitor safety and environmental performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Engage with operational teams to promote positive safety behaviours and improve standards across projects.
  • Support compliance with relevant UK safety and environmental legislation.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and training where required.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and other stakeholders regarding EHS performance and compliance.
  • Support environmental initiatives, including waste management, pollution prevention and sustainability.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of management systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • NEBOSH Gen or equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant professional membership, such as IOSH or IIRSM.
  • Previous experience in an EHS Advisor or similar position within construction, engineering or electrical contracting.
  • Good working knowledge of UK safety and environmental legislation.
  • Experience conducting site inspections, audits, risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Ability to engage confidently with site operatives, subcontractors and senior management.
  • CSCS card or equivalent appropriate to the role.
  • Strong communication skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
  • First Aid qualification.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will join an established organisation with a strong focus on improving safety and environmental performance.

This position would suit an experienced EHS Advisor who enjoys being involved with operational teams, understands the realities of working on construction and engineering projects, and can balance compliance requirements with practical delivery. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute directly to site performance, support operational management and help strengthen safety standards across the business.
